RE staff doing nightime walk for Breast Cancer charity
It’s Strictly Walking as 15,000 walkers step out in style at The Playtex MoonWalk aiming to raise £6 million in just one night!
A Rayner Essex team made up of Tina Richards, Sarah Winterbottom, Jean Archibald, Gillian Lusby and Pat Strods from our St Albans office will be taking part in the 12th Playtex MoonWalk in 2009! On 16 May, London will once again play host to this extraordinary moonlit Marathon and Half-Marathon which starts and finishes in Hyde Park.
Since the first MoonWalk in 1998 this unique challenge has brought together over 170,000 women and men, who have the united goal of raising money and awareness for vital breast cancer causes. This year another 15,000 brave walkers will be striding out together in their decorated bras. They have in previous years been accompanied by celebrities such as Jennifer Saunders, Lorraine Kelly, Kirstie Allsopp and Lisa Faulkner.
The Playtex MoonWalk is organised by health charity Walk the Walk Worldwide; this, their flagship event raised in excess of £5.7 million in 2008 alone, bringing the total to over £47 million in just 11 years!
With 1 in 9 women in the UK expected to experience some form of breast cancer, Walk the Walk emphasise the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle which includes encouraging exercise and healthy eating. Joining a Walk the Walk challenge, for many, is often the first step to making important life changes.
Organiser and founder of Walk the Walk Worldwide, Nina Barough, says “The Playtex MoonWalk is about women and men taking charge of their lives by not only getting fitter themselves to take on this challenge, but by uniting in the common bond of making a difference to vital breast cancer causes. It is probably the most dynamic and awe inspiring night that you could experience”.
